Maui is home to some of the best kite boarding, prone paddling, stand up paddling, small wave and big wave surfing the world has to offer. It is also home to master craftsman Matt Kazuma Kinoshita whose lifeblood runs through these sports and builds the watercrafts needed to enjoy them to their fullest potential.

Matt still loves to hand shape. When inspiration strikes he gets in the shape room…even at 3 a.m.

Not all shapers will take time out of their day to talk about board design, life, business and surfing but, fortunately for us and our readers, Matt did. We’re fortunate to have a customer like Matt who’s always reaching to improve his designs, the materials he uses and his process. Matt really keeps our Maui crew  on their toes and we have a feeling that’s exactly what his customers like about Kazuma Surfboards.

Matt orders special blanks that US Blanks produces for him, has a top-secret shaping machine in the works, is making his own blanks out of EPS off-cuts AND he still finds time to give shaping lessons! If you are ever in need of a healthy dose of the aloha spirit, then look no further than Matt and Kazuma Surfboards.
