His big wave boards are under the feet of Hawaiian pros like Makua Rothman and Kala Alexander as well as countless Australian and Japanese big wave riders. He has been featured in the Surfer Magazine Surfboard Buyer’s Guide, shaped for Hawaiian Island Creations for 20 plus years and was a standout at Pipeline and Ala Moana Bowls. Chuck learned how to shape under Ben Aipa and has a deep connection with his Hawaiian roots. Shaping surfboards “isn’t just a job,” as he puts it, “it’s what we do.” And “do” he does.

He still hand shapes, he rides big waves on the North Shore and he enjoys experimenting with new tools. Chuck and other professional shapers have been instrumental with helping us to develop our line of surfboard shaping tools. In this video he’s testing out  a few new prototypes that we hope to have available on our webstore soon.

Stay tuned for Chuck Andrus’ shaping video in the next couple of weeks. We will take a look at the similarities and differences between his shaping style and that of his mentor, Ben Aipa. We hope you enjoy this Pro Shaper Profile.
